Treating astigmatism with LASIK
Astigmatism is a very common condition, and our precision lasers used for LASIK surgery can be programmed to reshape the cornea and correct the problem, eliminating vision problems caused by astigmatism. Generally, an astigmatism that does not exceed 5.0 diopters in magnitude can be fully corrected through LASIK. More severe astigmatism may also be treatable with laser eye surgery.
Can LASIK correct farsightedness?
Yes! For the right candidates, LASIK surgery can provide an excellent way to reverse the effects of farsightedness, restoring a patient’s vision.
Does laser eye surgery work for nearsightedness?
Absolutely! As with farsightedness, myopia or nearsightedness can be corrected through LASIK eye surgery.
Can presbyopia be corrected with laser surgery?
As we get older, most of us struggle with the ability to focus on objects up close. During the presbyopic process the natural lens gradually loses its flexibility resulting in blurry vision when focusing on nearby objects. In a younger eye, the lens modifies the length or shape to see objects. LASIK eye surgery can correct some of these effects. Also, if you are an adult over 40 considering LASIK, you might choose to have your vision corrected for monovision, to maintain your ability to see objects close. With monovision, one eye is corrected for distant vision, and the other eye is corrected for near vision.
Another option to consider is Multifocal / Bifocal contact lenses. This is a great non-surgical alternative to reducing dependancy on reading glasses.
Can LASIK fix lazy eye?
It is difficult to evaluate success chances without seeing the patient. Generally, a lazy eye cannot be fixed with LASIK, but it may be possible to treat other factors which could improve the overall condition. Lazy eye is correctible, many times with other surgical procedures we offer.
