While LASIK and other vision-correcting procedures improves the vision of many happy patients every year, not everyone is a good candidate for them. If you have a stronger prescription or thin corneas, these procedures may not be an option.
If you have been told you are not a good candidate for other vision-correcting procedures, you may think you can’t improve your vision and achieve visual freedom. However, Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare is proud to offer our patients an innovative option for vision correction! Keep reading to find out if you should consider the EVO ICL!
What is the EVO ICL?
The EVO ICL is an additive lens that can correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. The EVO ICL can reduce, or even eliminate, the need for glasses and contacts to see clearly at all distances.
The EVO ICL is made of a thin, pliable, biocompatible material that melds seamlessly with your eye. The natural flexibility of the EVO ICL makes it easy to implant and completely unnoticeable after insertion.
Unlike other vision-correcting procedures, like LASIK or ZEISS SMILE, the EVO ICL does not involve reshaping corneal tissue or removing tissue from the eye. As such, implantation of the EVO ICL is far less invasive than other procedures.
One unique feature of the EVO ICL is that it is removable. Although the EVO ICL is meant to be permanent, it can easily be removed if another procedure, like cataract surgery, becomes necessary, or for some reason you don’t like the EVO ICL.
How Does the EVO ICL Work?
You’ll have the EVO ICL inserted into your eye through a small incision in the cornea. It is positioned behind the iris and in front of the eye’s natural lens. It works a lot like a contact lens except that it is permanently implanted in the eye.
Once implanted, the EVO ICL corrects nearsightedness or astigmatism by adjusting how light focuses on the retina. It also improves visual clarity, making your vision noticeably sharper and crisper than when you wore glasses or contact lenses.
The EVO ICL procedure typically takes between 20-30 minutes to perform, but eyes are done at the same time. The incision created to insert and position the EVO ICL is self-sealing and will naturally heal without sutures.
Because the EVO ICL procedure is less invasive, it has a minimal recovery time. Most patients with EVO ICL achieve 20/20 vision almost instantly or in the first few days following the procedure.
Who Should Consider EVO ICL?
Many patients seeking laser vision correction have been told they are not candidates because:
- They are severely nearsighted with a prescription between -3 to -20 diopters
- They have astigmatism that’s between 1.0 to 4.0 diopters
- They have dry eyes
- They have thin corneas
The best candidates for the EVO ICL are between 21 and 45 years of age, have a stable prescription that’s remained unchanged for a year or more, and have realistic expectations about what the EVO ICL can do to improve their vision.
If you have always wanted to correct your vision and free yourself from visual aids, the EVO ICL offers a revolutionary new way of improving your sight.
