If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with cataracts, you are not alone. It is estimated that by the age of 65, more than 90% of Americans will have received a cataract diagnosis.
Though they can happen at any age, cataracts often develop as your eyes age. With age, your eye’s natural lens can become clouded as proteins and fibers in the eye start to build up.
Naturally, people who have been recently diagnosed with cataracts have a lot of questions and concerns. They want to know how their vision will be affected and whether there are ways to treat cataracts effectively.
To help our patients better understand this common eye condition and learn about their treatment options, Fichte, Endl, & Elmer Eyecare hosts a monthly event called a Cataract Surgery Lunch and Learn. Keep reading to learn more about our Cataract Surgery Lunch and Learn events!
The Benefits of Attending a Lunch and Learn
Attending a Cataract Surgery Lunch and Learn is an excellent opportunity to learn more about cataracts and cataract surgery in a relaxed environment.
Our Lunch and Learn events are all personally hosted by one of our experienced eye surgeons. Our surgeons have performed over 100,000 cataract procedures, making them one of the best sources of information about both cataracts and cataract surgery in our area.
What to Expect During Cataract Surgery
The surgeons talk to our Lunch and Learn attendees and walk them through the steps of a typical cataract surgery. They explain how, during cataract surgery, the eye’s clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens or IOL.
We can treat cataracts at Fichte, Endl, & Elmer Eyecare with traditional or advanced laser cataract surgery. Laser cataract surgery combined with 3D imaging during the procedure provides more precise treatment and better visual outcomes for our patients.
Attendees may find that knowing what will happen during their procedure can help ease any anxiety. Any surgical procedure can be nerve-wracking, so we’re here to educate you all along the way.
IOL Options for Cataract Surgery
A cataract surgeon will also review the IOL options to replace the natural lens during cataract surgery. Replacing the natural lens with an IOL during cataract surgery removes the cataract and can potentially improve vision at multiple ranges.
In addition to learning about cataract surgery, a Cataract Surgery Lunch and Learn event is an excellent opportunity to ask questions about all aspects of cataracts and cataract surgery. A Q&A session takes place after the presentation.
Space is limited, and interested participants must make a reservation to ensure attendees get a seat. You can sign up for a Lunch and Learn event by visiting our website and clicking the Events tab. You can also call 1-800-309-2020 and speak to a representative in our call center.
